Daylight’s End is the very first movie to be released in both U.S. theaters and in VR on the same day. The movie is an action thriller set in a post-apocalyptic city of Dallas, Texas. It stars with Lance Henriksen (THE TERMINATOR, ALIENS, ALIEN 3) and Johnny Strong “2012’s Breakout Action Star” of the year. William Kaufman and Chad Law wrote the prequel of the film which will be released in the VR edition of the movie, that has been directed by Dale Carman. Johnny Strong joined the crew and returns to star in his role of “Thomas Rourke,” who is the main character of the film.

The VR edition also includes special “Easter Eggs” materials that can be unlocked. People can unlock various weapons used in the movie and then use them in the experience. Weapons used by Thomas Rourke (Johnny Strong) include a Colt M1911A1, Double Barreled Shotgun with Exposed Hammers, a Rossi Overland Short Barreled Shotgun 12 Gauge, and a M14 SOCOM 16.

Frank Hill (Lance Henriksen) uses a custom engraved nickel plated Colt MKIV Series 80 with pearl grips, and AK-104 utilized by Vlad Romanov (Sonny Puzikas).

Groove Jones a studio well-known for their work in 360º commercial productions for companies like McDonald’s, NASCAR, and Nestlé, is the studio behind the release of the VR Edition. Dale Carman, the Executive Creative Director worked with William Kaufman and Chad Law on the prequel. “Working with the theatrical team for this VR experience was exciting,” said Dale Carman. “We were able to pull off something that just about everyone talks about, but rarely delivers. We believe 360º movies can deliver a whole new level of excitement and thrills and look forward to more productions like this.”

The Groove Jones team leverage their VR platform “Groove Tech” to expedite the production process. “We were able to use ‘Groove Tech’ in order to rapidly deploy the film and the special content on both mobile and PC VR platforms,” said Dale Carman. “Our goal is to hit every headset with minimum overhead to our production pipeline. We were able to do this in weeks instead of months.”

The movie is being prepared for release on both the Steam Store for HTC Vive and Samsung Gear VR. The movie hits theaters and will be available as a digital download on August 26th. Vertical Entertainment is the domestic distributor of the film.
